“Late one evening, I met Feargal at the Angel end of Liverpool Road and shot some portraits under a streetlight, as I didn’t have lighting or a flashgun with me. After, we walked past a laundrette and it occurred to me that it was the best lit location in sight, so that’s how this photo came about. It was a quiet session as Feargal didn’t speak much, and I always tend to go with the subject’s mood. The Undertones were a great pop punk band from Derry, Northern Ireland, and Feargal’s distinctive quivering voice gave them a unique sound. The song Teenage Kicks – from their debut album The Undertones – was DJ John Peels’s favourite song of all time and was released not long before I took this picture.” David Corio
