“This was the second trip; it was for an NME cover and was taken at five o’clock in the morning. The early shoot was down to the group having had success since I shot them the previous year, the result being that my photos were not high on their agenda as they needed to head to the next city of the tour.” Lawrence Watson

Lawrence first travelled to the United States in March 1985 to shoot the early stars of hip-hop for NME. It was the first of over ten trips he would make in the next two years, documenting the artists who took hip-hop from block parties to the Billboard charts.
